Sweden released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), Danish ( Subtitles ), Finnish ( Subtitles ), Norwegian ( Subtitles ), Swedish ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Box Set, Interactive Menu, Multi-DVD Set, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: All Creatures Great and Small is much more than the life of a veterinarian. James Herriot is a spanking new graduate from Veterinary School and he accepts employment in a rural area of Yorkshire, England, with the sometimes gruff, usually eccentric, always lovable Siegfried Farnon, a fellow bachelor serving the animal world of the region. On the surface, the stories told through the series look much like they're merely about life in rural Englandwhile under the auspices of a simple country vet. Once one scratches the surface, though, it's easy to see the tales told have more to do with the people than the animals. What makes this even more remarkable is Herriot's stories being used in the context of the time in which they were written, post-WWII, when medicine took a major leap forward. With the introduction of penicillin, machinery replacing large animals and the burst of industry, veterinary work changed dramatically in a short period of time. In addition, animal ownership shifted from large to small animals, as more and more families moved from farms to cities in search of work. Part of the comedy (and tragedy) of this series lies in this changing world causing problems with his work in the form of animal owners not quite prepared to accept the new-fangled ideas of this newly created veterinarian. SCREENED/AWARDED AT: BAFTA Awards, Emmy Awards, ...All Creatures Great and Small (Seasons 1-3) 12-DVD Box Set ( All Creatures Great & Small - Seasons One - Three )

I tried watching a couple episodes of the BBC's 1977 "All Creatures Great and Small" on Youtube that were essentially unwatchable. They were video tape recordings of the original broadcasts with problems like the audio was way out of synch with the video and there were long stretches, on of the order of a minute or two with no audio at all, and very poor video resolution.I bought this set assuming that it would be at least the original TV broadcast quality and I am happy to report that it is original TV broadcast quality, albeit analog TV from the late 1970's, not digital TV. The original English language audio is fully synchronized with the video. These DVD's will not play on a standard USA DVD player; they require a DVD player that can play Region 2 DVDs, but the Amazon listing is very clear about this. The starting splash screen offers a choice of one of the four Scandinavian language subtitles, but my Sony DVD player has a subtitle button that cycles through the choices and offers 'none' as the 5th option, if you don't want foreign language subtitles appearing on the screen. There is no subtitle option for English language subtitles. Each of the disks has small type label with the Disk number so you can tell which is which. It's a great Master Piece Theater production, with classic filming techniques: steady, composed shots with none of the shakey hand-held camera crap so common today on reality shows or the streaming media. It's like other productions from that era: I, Claudius or UXB.The box label that the 12 DVDs comes in is printed in Swedish, hence the title "I Vår Herres Hage" instead of the "All Creatures Great and Small".Interesting that a classic like this production only seems to be available as the Scandinavian release but the content is as good as it was originally.
